ANL is marking 70 years in 2026 with an anniversary update highlighting a new China–Australia service and wider regional coverage. Its reported cotton, meat and citrus shipments illustrate the network’s importance to Australian agricultural exporters, alongside importers seeking connections with Asian markets.
The company is now CMA CGM’s Oceania specialist, having started under Australian Government ownership in 1956 and joined the group in 1998.
China service adds to regional reach
ANL says its 23 services connect Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands with Northeast and Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent and North America. It reports calls at 61 ports within CMA CGM’s 331-port global network.
ACX, launched in 2026, adds a China–Australia service. ANL also lists expanded coverage to Port Vila and Santo in Vanuatu, plus Gladstone, Port Hedland, Dampier and Wyndham in Australia. Whether those links suit a particular shipment depends on rotation, frequency and transhipment arrangements, which shippers should confirm in current ANL service notices.
Farm exports underpin the cargo mix
In 2025, ANL says it carried Australian exports comprising more than 27,000 containers of cotton, 35,000 containers of meat and 12,000 containers of citrus. Its New Zealand cargo included 8,600 containers of kiwifruit, 10,500 containers of apples and pears, and more than 39,000 containers of dairy products.
The mix illustrates ANL’s role across fibre and food supply chains, rather than a single export sector. The figures describe the carrier’s own cargo in containers, not stated TEU volumes or national export totals, and provide no year-on-year comparison.
Fuel milestones need shipment-level context
ANL also reports a container-shipping biofuel trial in Oceania in 2022 and an LNG-powered container-ship voyage there in 2025, aligned with CMA CGM’s net-zero carbon ambition for 2050. Those milestones indicate work on fuel choices, but the announcement does not quantify emissions savings for customers’ shipments.
Congratulations!!
Sea Logic congratulates ANL on an outstanding 70 years of connecting Australia with global markets. We are proud to work alongside a carrier with such a long-standing contribution to Australian trade and look forward to continuing our relationship as ANL enters its next chapter of growth and innovation.
