Choosing a service

What does a freight forwarder do?

A freight forwarder coordinates the movement of goods between the parties handling the shipment. The agreed scope may include carrier bookings, documentation, customs coordination, collection and delivery. Confirm which stages are included in your quote.

Should I use sea freight or air freight?

Start with cargo size, readiness and the date it is needed. Sea freight offers container and specialist vessel options; air freight can be assessed where timing is a priority. Compare the complete delivered scope rather than only the main transport leg.

Can you help a first-time importer?

Yes. Send the goods description, supplier location, package details and intended delivery address. The team can work through the proposed movement and identify what information is still required.

Can you help a first-time exporter?

Yes. Start with the Australian collection address, overseas customer’s port or door address, goods description, packed measurements and ready date. Share the agreed sale terms and tell us which stages you need coordinated. Our export planning guide explains the next questions.

Preparing your shipment

What do you need to prepare a quote?

Origin, destination, goods description, package count, dimensions, gross weight, cargo-ready date and delivery requirements. Include any agreed shipping terms, special handling needs and site restrictions.

Can you arrange freight from door to door?

Discuss the collection and delivery addresses with our team. Door-to-door scope depends on the route, cargo and services agreed in the quote; do not assume clearance, duty, taxes or unloading are automatically included.

Can batteries or unusual cargo travel?

Some goods require additional acceptance and handling review. Identify batteries, liquids, temperature-sensitive products and unusual dimensions before booking so suitability can be assessed.

Useful to know

Departure, arrival and delivery

Does the ETA tell me when the truck will arrive?

No. A vessel or flight ETA is not the same as cargo availability or a delivery appointment. Handling, clearance, release and transport arrangements need to be coordinated after arrival.

When should I send customs documents?

Send available documents early enough for your broker to review the actual goods and request missing information. Requirements vary by shipment. Early preparation helps the process but does not guarantee release.

What happens to the empty container?

For a full-container delivery, unpacking and the empty return need to be planned. Confirm the receiving arrangements and tell your coordinator when the container will be available for collection.

What needs to be ready before an export departs?

Confirm cargo readiness, packing and loading responsibilities, shipping instructions and the applicable export documents. Work back from the booked terminal or airline cut-offs, not only the departure date. Identify who handles overseas clearance and receipt before the goods leave Australia.
